Frequently Asked Questions

A birth doula offers continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during labor and birth. I can help you try comfort measures, talk through your preferences, and make space for your partner or other support people to participate in ways that feel right to you. I work alongside your clinical team; as your doula, I do not provide medical care or make decisions for you.

My birth doula package includes two prenatal visits to get to know you, discuss your preferences, and prepare for labor. I am on call beginning at 38 weeks and provide continuous support during labor and birth, followed by about two hours of support immediately after birth. We will also meet for one postpartum visit, typically lasting 1½ to 2 hours, to check in and talk through your experience and early days with your baby.

I am on call for your birth beginning at 38 weeks. Please let me know when you think labor may be starting, even if you are not ready for me to join you yet. We can stay in touch as things develop and decide together when in-person support would be most helpful. After 9 p.m., please contact me for urgent labor-related updates rather than routine questions.
-
Yes. Your choices and circumstances may change during birth, and my role is to support you through those changes. With an epidural, I can help with positioning, comfort, and communication. If a cesarean birth becomes part of your plan, I can help you prepare, offer support before and after surgery, and join you in the operating room if the hospital permits it.
-
A daytime visit is shaped around what would help your family most that day. I can offer newborn care guidance, feeding support, a chance for you to rest or shower, and practical help with light tasks related to your recovery and the baby. Visits have a three-hour minimum, and we can discuss your priorities before each one.
-
I currently offer daytime postpartum support only. If your family is looking for overnight care, I’m happy to suggest other local resources to explore.

As a Certified Lactation Counselor, I can listen to your feeding goals, help with positioning and latch, and talk through common questions about breastfeeding or chestfeeding and milk expression. I support families with care and without judgment, whether they feed their baby directly from their body, use expressed milk or formula, or combine approaches. If a concern needs more specialized evaluation or medical care, I can help you connect with an appropriate provider.
